Scientific potential

The National Program for the Prevention, Early Diagnosis and Treatment of Malignant Tumors in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2010-2015 has been adopted and implemented

Since 2018, the Cancer Registry of Cancer Patients has been established and started operating at our institution using the CANREG5 program. Over the past 10 years, the scientific and human resources potential of the center has been replenished with highly qualified specialists in various fields of oncology

Today, the country’s oncology service has a significant scientific and personnel potential, which consists of 3 professors, 10 doctors of medical sciences and 15 candidates of medical sciences, 6 of whom are associate professors and represent various sections of oncology. MD “MJIS” VT and HIA RT, which is the leading specialized medical institution in Tajikistan, has sufficient human and technical potential to implement a scientific project on early diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors. There are 2 professors, 9 doctors of medical sciences, 14 candidates of medical sciences, 6 of whom are associate professors, 3 candidates and 2 postgraduate students working here. Currently, 2 doctoral theses and 3 candidate theses are being implemented. The scientific potential of the staff at the Center is 40.7%, and the scientific degree is 30%. 2 departments operate on the basis of the institution – the departments of oncology and radiological diagnostics of the MDT “DDTT named after Abuali ibni Sino” and the MDT “DTBCST RT”.

  • Colpoperineolevatoroplasty.
  • Extended extirpation of the uterus with appendages.
  • Laparoscopic surgery for the pelvic organs and abdomen.
  • Surgical intervention in newborns (up to 1 month).
  • Organ-preserving surgery for breast cancer.
  • Use of TDL and TRAM flaps in large skin defects of the anterior chest wall in breast cancer.
  • Intraductal injection of methylene blue in benign breast tumors (intraductal papilloma) for tumor localization for radical removal of the papilloma.
  • Simultaneous reconstruction with local tissues in large benign breast tumors.
  • Continuous high-dose chemotherapy, targeted therapy (high-dose).
  • CT scan for early detection of colon cancer with the introduction of distilled water.
  • Use of the Cryostat device for rapid histological studies.
  • Immunohistochemical studies of breast tumors, digestive organs, determination of the proliferative activity index of tumors (ki-67).

ORGANIZATIONAL-METHODICAL DEPARTMENT OF CANCER FIGHTING

The department participates in determining the directions of the Center’s scientific activity and organizes the following types of events:

  • Organization and provision of advisory assistance to local executive bodies, development of plans and reports;
  • Organization and conduct of thematic seminars, symposiums and advanced training courses for doctors on topical issues of oncology;
  • Organization and conduct of scientific-practical seminars in cities and districts of Tajikistan on various issues of oncology by the Center’s staff;
  • Supervision over the implementation of the results of scientific and research work in healthcare practice;
  • Organization and holding of scientific conferences on topical issues of oncology;
  • Development of information materials on the practical activities of the Center at the request of the Ministry of Health.

The Targeted Cancer Program of the Ministry of Health and the National Cancer Institute of the Republic of Tajikistan provides for the following tasks:

  • Strengthening the role of the primary healthcare system, activating the work of control rooms and restoring anti-cancer work at the level of the Central Cancer Center;
  • Organization of specialized cancer centers and departments between the regions (in Kulob and Bokhtar);
  • Activities of the radiology department of the Sughd Cancer Center (National Project TAD/6/006 “Establishment of a radiation therapy department”) in the 2019 SOTC;
  • Designing a radiation therapy department of the Regional Cancer Center No. 2, Kulob city, Khatlon region, providing regional cancer institutions with medical equipment for the adult and pediatric population;
  • Organization of a state registry of patients with malignant tumors;
  • Introduction of cytological screening in preventive examinations among the female population in order to detect cervical and breast cancer early;
  • Establishing online communication with foreign cancer centers;
  • Organizing sanitary and educational activities among the population to promote a healthy lifestyle with the involvement of mass media;
  • Organizing state accounting and registration of hazardous carcinogenic production, determining the list of carcinogens and hazardous carcinogenic substances existing in Tajikistan. Creating data banks on the quantity, properties, production methods, areas of use and methods of neutralization of carcinogens and hazardous carcinogenic substances, approving the list of substances, products, production processes, household and natural factors that are carcinogenic to humans, and maintaining a state register of persons who have been or have been in contact with chemical, physical, biological, radiation and other carcinogenic factors;
  • Providing cancer institutions with medicines mainly from leading pharmaceutical companies with budget funds;
  • Increasing knowledge and improving the skills of oncology workers (the training plan has been approved); Conducting basic and applied research on the prevention and treatment of oncological diseases, developing early diagnosis methods, and new approaches to the treatment of malignant tumors.
