Department of Radiation Therapy
The Department of Radiation Therapy is a functional division of the Republican Oncology Research Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan. Currently, it is a specialized department for radiosurgical treatment of cancer patients in the republic. Since 2006, according to the IAEA project, after dismantling the Rokus apparatus, the TERAGAM KO-1 apparatus was installed, and after dismantling the intracavitary AGAT-VU apparatus, the MulTISouRS HDR BEBIC with the planning installation of the xIo system was installed. The department employs 6 doctors, 1 of whom is a PhD, 3 physicists, 3 radiologists, 1 postgraduate student.
An X-ray simulator was installed for radiotherapy. The X-ray simulator is designed to obtain initial anatomical information of the patient, to simulate the irradiation plan before remote or contact irradiation on medical devices. Radiation therapy is performed after planning on the xi planning system. The department staff consists of 5 doctors – radiologists and 2 medical physicists.
The department’s specialists regularly improve their skills by participating in scientific seminars and training courses. In August 2019, the CO-60 source was replaced on the MulTISouRS brachytherapy unit. In September 2019, the X-ray simulator was upgraded to a more modern TERA SIx made in the Czech Republic. The TERA GIS verification system was installed. To improve the quality of radiation therapy, 2D planning was replaced with 3D according to the plAn planning system. On November 28, 2019, the CO-60 source was replaced on the TERAGAM ko-1 gamma therapeutic unit.
