State Institution Republican Oncology Research Center

Priority areas of the oncology service of the Republic of Tajikistan:

Planning activities for primary prevention of tumor diseases: conducting health education work among the population to promote a healthy lifestyle, raising the level of knowledge on the prevention and control of oncological diseases.

Organization of detection of tumors at early stages of their development – I and II stages, “in situ”.

The issues of development and production of domestic antitumor drugs and provision of oncological institutions in the required volume remain relevant.

Training and advanced training of oncologists, radiologists, mid-level medical and engineering and technical personnel, as well as training general specialists of medical and preventive institutions to increase oncological knowledge and improve preventive work of primary health care.

Finally, for the implementation and further development of the oncology service, a necessary condition is scientific support for its main areas and activities: conducting fundamental research on the study of the etiopathogenesis of malignant growth and applied research on the development and implementation of new methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases, on the introduction of new physical means of influencing the tumor.

History of development

The beginning of the organization of oncological care for the population of Tajikistan dates back to 1945, when the Republican Oncology Dispensary with 50 beds and an oncology office with 10 beds were created in the city of Leninabad.
In 1950, only 7 oncologists worked in the Republic of Tajikistan; in 1964 – 72 oncologists; in 1985 – 132.

The history of the oncology service gratefully preserves the names of leading specialists, professionals who contributed to the development of oncological diseases (academicians Usmanov N.U., Mansurov Kh.Kh., professors Pulatov A.M., Tadzhiev K.P., Khomidov N.Kh., Asimi A.S., Z.P. Khodjaev, Datkhoev Yu.I., Bobokhodjaev M.Kh., Gulyamov M.G., Iskhaki Yu.B. and others).

On the initiative of A.I. Paches, Ya.D. Rakhimov and Z.P. Khodjaev, the Ministry of Health of the Republic sent a number of young doctors to undergo postgraduate studies in leading medical institutions of Moscow: B.P. Akhmedov, R.S. Rubinov, D.R. Ismailov, N.U. Shodmonkhodzhaeva and others.

Since 1965, the oncology service was headed by a gifted doctor, professional oncologist B.P. Akhmedov. Being a graduate of the school of academician N.N. Blokhin and N.N. Trapeznikov, he was able to make significant adjustments to the work of oncologists in the republic.

Under his leadership, new forms of organizing anti-cancer control were successfully developed in those years, research into the regional features of the spread of tumor pathology was launched, and early diagnostics of neoplasms was improved.

These circumstances defined the range of program issues that have not lost their significance even today. Without the continuation of the research started at that time, today oncology in the Republic of Tajikistan would not be able to move forward.

Present

By the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan dated September 7, 2006 No. 415, the Republican Clinical Oncology Center was transformed into the State Institution Oncology Research Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan (SI ONC MH RT).
